Custom Enclosures FAQ
IS A TESTING ENCLOSURE NECESSARY FOR MY FACILITY?
Yes, while OSHA may not have a specific mandate for testing enclosures, protecting your employees, property and equipment from the risks of high-pressure testing is critical. Standard safety protocols like standoff distances are often insufficient during a catastrophic failure. Our enclosures are engineered to contain projectiles and energy release, preventing serious injury and damage. Many facilities have “near-miss” stories. Does yours? An engineered enclosure ensures those stories don’t end in disaster.
MY FACILITY IS ALREADY BUILT OUT. CAN YOU WORK AROUND MY EXISTING LAYOUT AND EQUIPMENT?
Absolutely. RBI specializes in integrating our enclosures into existing facilities. We frequently design and assemble enclosures around immovable structures like building columns or large, pre-existing equipment. Our goal is to enhance your safety protocols without hindering your current workflow or production processes.
ARE YOUR ENCLOSURES BUILT TO SPECIFIC SAFETY STANDARDS?
Yes, our enclosure designs involve blast engineering principles, and our calculations are highly controlled. We design enclosures to withstand catastrophic failures, unlike makeshift solutions made from cinder blocks or plexiglass that have not been engineered to specifications. For example, one of our enclosures successfully contained a 15,000-pound component that was blown off a valve during an over-pressurization incident, protecting all employees and preventing further damage. This is the level of safety we build into every project.
WHAT DOES THE PROCESS OF PROCURING A CUSTOM ENCLOSURE INVOLVE?
RBI’s process is designed to be straightforward and collaborative. We offer a 5-step process to ensure
- Consultation: We begin with an initial discussion via email or a conference call to understand your project needs and challenges.
- Budgetary Proposal: We provide a preliminary proposal. If it aligns with your goals, we move to the next step.
- Detailed Planning: This may involve a site visit to finalize all specifications and provide a firm quotation.
- Drawings and Approval: We create preliminary drawings for your approval. After your sign-off, we complete formal engineering drawings for a final review.
- Manufacturing and Installation: Once approved, we begin manufacturing. We can provide full installation services at your facility or ship the enclosure for you to assemble, which is a common option for our international clients.
